About

This weblog serves as a way of communicating publicly-accessible events and information to students and staff in the Performing Arts department at the University of Chester, along with interested other parties.

It is hoped that this will be a good way of letting you all know about Events and Performances you can attend, trips we are organising and also similar things going on in the surrounding area that might be of interest to you. It is possible that we may also communicate department-wide issues students should be aware of, such as important hand-in dates.

Please note, this is NOT a replacement in any way for IBIS; it will not give you module-specific information or information that should not be made available to the wider internet, and you should continue to check the relevant places for that information regularly as usual.

  1. I wonder if your students would be interested in the following volunteer opportunities at greenroom, Manchester:

Heritage Investigator Volunteer vacancies at greenroom, Manchester

greenroom is Manchester’s centre for new performance and has showcased thousands of innovative performances since launching in 1983. To celebrate our 25th anniversary and to conserve our oral history before it is lost, greenroom is expanding its archive and launching a series of related arts projects.

To assist the organisation in this, we are looking to recruit a group of volunteer Heritage Investigators from our local community. One of the longer term projects will involve researching the history of the organisation using a range of exploratory approaches. As a Heritage Investigator you will undergo an induction to heritage research, information gathering, archiving and conducting interviews, including using recording equipment.

Another project, led by lead artists from the Sometimes… collective, will develop an exhibition based on transient meetings with strangers in both the city centre and Greater Manchester. For this project you would be required to approach members of the general public to conduct brief interviews, together with some basic photography and note-keeping. We may also require some assistance in organizing and mounting the exhibition. We would love to hear from you if you are a good listener who loves conversation. Basic photography skills and your own digital camera (whatever spec.) would be useful, though not essential; and there will be some note-taking involved.

To be involved in the Sometimes… project you will need to be available for an initial company induction on the evening of Monday 17 November, and have some availability during the week Monday 24 – Saturday 29 November 2008 to carry out the project.

To volunteer to be a Heritage Investigator, please email your CV and/or some brief information about yourself and why you are interested in this project, to projects@greenroomarts.org by Wednesday 12 November. For further information, please call Ali Dunican, General Manager on 0161 615 0506

Please provide your contact details so that we can call you back to discuss.
